The Presidio is a district in San Francisco that has contributed greatly to the armed forces on the West Coast, and has been a mainstay attraction of the city for generations. This district once possessed a beautiful thriving ecosystem, established through the intertwining existence of both man and nature. However, much of the nature's disposition in the Presidio has been greatly neglected as time continued. Once beautiful natural attractions such as Lobos Creek, Dragonfly Creek, and Krissy Marsh began to diminish in appearance; being inundated with water, and overflowed by a sea of growing vegetation. It is the job of the Presidio Park Trust to re-grow these areas and return the Presidio to its previous state.
As part of the first day at the Presidio, we were stationed in a location called Dragonfly Creek. The creek bed itself does not flow with water, but during winter, it becomes a runoff for water to reach the bay from higher elevations. Our job was to weed the area, and also remove roots that dug underneath the surface that would impede this natural runoff. We worked for three hours.
